CROP UPDATES: MANGO JUICE - Q4 2023

ALPHONSO

Local producers in India maintain that the 2023 Alphonso crop was good and that there is a good amount of inventory available. Slow demand is putting downward pressure on pricing for puree. While demand has been slow, shipments have been regular and enquiries have started picking up from Europe and the Middle East, say local producers in India. Stock levels of 100% Alphonso are very limited and are expected to be depleted before the next season begins.

Growing conditions are favourable for the 2024 Alphonso crop. Flowering has started in the Ratnagiri region and processors say they should have a good idea on production from next year’s crop within four to six weeks.

TOTAPURI

While there were carry over inventories from the 2022 season going into the crop this year, these stocks seem to have been exhausted, which should help to support pricing for supplies from the 2023 crop. Export demand is seeing some movement, but inventory of Totapuri puree from the 2023 is estimated to be in the region of 50,000 MT. Local producers expect stocks of both Totapuri concentrate and puree to be depleted by April 2024.

It has reportedly been raining for last 15 days in the growing areas of Chittoor, which is not ideal weather conditions for flowering to set in – the 2024 harvest could be delayed as a result. Production from the 2024 mango season in India is expected to be “average” given biennial nature of mango crops there.
