PINEAPPLE JUICE CROP UPDATES - Q1 2025

Thailand Winter Crop

The Winter crop in Thailand has ended with lower-than-expected output due to a drought four months ago. Raw material prices are at record highs (THB 15/kg), prompting processors to pay premium prices for supplies, which is impacting the market. Growers have been discarding fruit over 1.5 kg, which may affect the Summer crop starting in April. Growing conditions for the Summer crop are favorable. Offers for concentrate are USD 4,000+/MT (60 brix, FOB Bangkok), with strong demand and some buyers adjusting quality expectations. Prices are expected to remain firm until the next crop.

Expectations for Thailand’s 2024 Output

Fresh pineapple production in Thailand is expected to be between 650,000-700,000 MT. While production may slightly increase, there is a significant backlog of orders. Some buyers are reducing or eliminating pineapple in blends due to high prices, although other juices like apple and orange are also expensive.

Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, processors are struggling to meet NFC supply commitments due to smaller fruit sizes, with fresh market demands further reducing supply. Fruit prices have risen from USD 320/MT to USD 400/MT since October. Analysts expect a 25-35% reduction in juice production for 2025 unless growing conditions improve. Forward pricing for the next crop in May is expected at USD 4,000+/MT.

Kenya

Kenya is facing challenges in meeting demand, despite peak production, as rains prevent fruit from reaching processing plants. This has raised concerns about high nitrate levels, and strong demand from the fresh market is further complicating the situation.
