MANGO CROP UPDATES - Q3 2024

ALPHONSO

The 2024 Alphonso processing season has concluded. Although the season was shorter in the southern regions, processors managed to process sufficient quantities to meet market requirements.

The average fruit price for the season was around INR 48/kg, leading to current Alphonso puree offers of USD 1,550/MT single on strength FOB India. Some processors have started blending Alphonso with Sindura, with a 70:30 blend being the most popular. The Sindura crop was normal, but due to the high prices of Alphonso, Sindura also sold at a higher-than-usual price, averaging INR 30/kg for the season. Demand from major export markets and the domestic market in India is reportedly subdued. Local processors indicate that carry-over stocks of Alphonso puree from the 2023 season are limited.

TOTAPURI

The 2024 Totapuri crop is ongoing, but the season is short in both availability and duration. Fruit deliveries to factories picked up only at the end of June, and local producers in India expect the season to wind up this week.

Current fruit pricing is INR 27/kg, which producers say is unsustainable given the weak market demand. Processors are attempting to push prices down but expect the season average to be around INR 26-27/kg. Domestic demand is weak, with some large buyers reducing their requirements by 30-35%.

There is a significant carryover stock from the 2023 season, with some smaller processors reportedly repacking this product and offering it at a discount. Carryover stock from the 2023 season is being offered at very low prices, and demand remains weak, according to processors.
